Deputy FM: Iran ready to help UNHCHR upgrade its programs

TEHRAN (IRNA) -- Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Mohammad-Ali Hosseini said here Tuesday that Iran is ready to assist the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (UNHCHR) upgrade the content of its programs.

Hosseini told the new head of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (UNHCHR), Navanethem Pillay, that UN needs to take some important steps in connection with human rights, including promoting respect for cultural diversity and abandoning political and double-standard approaches.
Hosseini said that in the 60th anniversary of the signing of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which coincided with the 60th anniversary of the occupation of Palestine by the Zionist Regime of Israel, global action needs to be taken to end Zionist Regime's crimes.
Commending Iran's initiatives for intercultural dialogue on human rights, Pillay announced her office's readiness to cooperate with Iran in the content and technical domains.
